If we are brutally honest, it’s time to reevaluate the entire education system. What is school for? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I wanted to share that I will be a correspondent for BBN Times at the upcoming HIMSS conference in Orlando from Feb. 11 -- 14th. Here is the piece I wrote describing the themes I will cover and write about. If there are others of interest, let me know and I will try to attend relevant sessions and interview relevant folks. Already, there is a request for a piece on telemedicine. …see more

This should be interesting to see the take rate of Walmart 's new Amazon Prime-like subscription when it launches on September 15th. I suspect that it will be pretty big as they will offer similar benefits like free grocery delivery but also add in things like cheaper gasoline. Open question is will it siphon off a significant amount of current Prime members or just be adopted by current customers? #walmart #subscription #amazonprime …see more

Thought this would be of interest. Original link did not work. It is about being treated well by physicians and is a follow-on to an earlier piece in Medium reposted here. Thoughts welcomed. The response is almost better than the original story. https://lnkd.in/edxQq92

Hope this link works: https://lnkd.in/edxQq92 . If I did not know better, I'd think the physician was sending bad vibes. Read on -- it is a follow on to an earlier piece on a bad acting cardiologist and my response and how his response (and mine. For the record, he's been reported to DC and MD physician organizations for pursuit of a complaint.

I just read the Chronicle of Higher Ed’s daily summary. It ended with an apparently real story of a new college student who emailed her roommates saying that because since her name was in the first half of the alphabet, she got to move in 1st and pick the best bed. Perhaps that was a joke by the roommate or the Chronicle. But here’s what struck me: some new students feel fortunate just to have a bed as opposed to the best bed. And can we all agree that there is not ONE best bed? Might that depend on whether you like windows or corners or top/bottom bunk? No conversation? What about switching beds every 3 months? There's a lesson whether the story was true or fake: the entering classes at all universities are not composed of clones—clones of the parents or new students. Might that engender an openness and capacity to engage thoughtfully w/ others as opposed to “owning the room” as the mother in the story is quoted as saying? How about owning decency? It saddens me that for some students the rocky start that many experience is exacerbated by privilege and false winning. Maybe the tallest student picks first. Maybe the one w/ the lowest GPA? Maybe the artist or athlete? Just saying: is the alphabet the stand in for privilege? Might that depend on which alphabet too? …see more

2019 will be an interesting year in terms of tech worker power following a successful year shutting down two huge Google projects and protests at other large companies. "What will the tech workers think?" now has to be added to every major decision within tech companies -- it's an unofficial sharing of power. Tech workers are interested in peace, love and understanding and they want ethical leadership. If it is lacking then they will become the leaders. That's what happened at Google in 2018 when it dropped its motto: "Don't Be Evil" -- its workers picked it up and kept it going. https://t.co/vuZLB1DIC3 #techpower , #techindustry , …see more
