So, with the holiday's approaching, I have been paying attention to how merchants sell their goods. I notice the sales they offer and the ads they produce, including some that prove controversial. My children's books are, of course, "goods" but I think of them as delivering education. Add to that: I see them as a service not merchandise. They are meant to be read to and with children. They combine learning with good, fun, warm and engaging stories. They are meant to be read and re-read. I was delighted that the most recent book in the Lady Lucy series, Lady Lucy's Ghost Quest, was featured in a holiday guide of books that kids will enjoy. Visit themommiesreviews.com to see all the books listed there. And I think it will appear in another guide shortly. Bottom line, as an educator, I get "selling" but I prefer to think that what I am doing is "selling" imagination and a love of reading and an appreciation for stories and words. At the end of the day, I hope what I sell is valuable....and something that will engage for months and even years. By the by, I like goods. It is just that I like services too. …see more

Karma --- so the Nats swept last night and I was there. Magic. I was introduced to them by a former SVC trustee and enjoyed the games and even shared season tickets with friends for two seasons (prior to this season). Now the connection: on that win day yesterday, that very day, the pre-order forms for Lady Lucy's Ghost Quest were posted as well as the event announcing its release. And, the book is all about the power of the possible and phoenixes rising from the ashes. And SVC. Believe in the power of the possible. If you want to order or attend the book release event on Oct. 30th, here are the details. Go Nats. Go SVC and those who believe in it still. I believe. Reminder of Holiday Giving -- head to Fabulous Market on Pennsylvania between 24th and 25th St. NW. Buy one of my children's books (they are open on Thanksgiving). If all books there are sold by Dec. 6th (I think there are 11 left), then I will donate 5 books to kids in need in DC. For real. Head there. Lady Lucy's Ghost Quest is a bargain -- $14 when on Amazon it is $24. All books are $14. A steal so to speak. Happy Holiday and make the holiday joyous for others. …see more

I reached out to actor Sam Lloyd in 2015 to help my dad as he was losing his fight with cancer. Sam really helped me out with a video to dad in character from his famous Seinfeld character. Here is the video he did: https://lnkd.in/e73JVGd Sadly, Sam now is fighting his own devastating cancer and his family needs help. The Highlighted words here are very important and so true in my experience for people of all ages. Don’t waste your time pretending to be a thought leader, instead do real work! Thank you for sharing Chip Cutter
I just read the Chronicle of Higher Ed’s daily summary. It ended with an apparently real story of a new college student who emailed her roommates saying that because since her name was in the first half of the alphabet, she got to move in 1st and pick the best bed. Perhaps that was a joke by the roommate or the Chronicle. But here’s what struck me: some new students feel fortunate just to have a bed as opposed to the best bed. And can we all agree that there is not ONE best bed? Might that depend on whether you like windows or corners or top/bottom bunk? No conversation? What about switching beds every 3 months? There's a lesson whether the story was true or fake: the entering classes at all universities are not composed of clones—clones of the parents or new students. Might that engender an openness and capacity to engage thoughtfully w/ others as opposed to “owning the room” as the mother in the story is quoted as saying? How about owning decency? It saddens me that for some students the rocky start that many experience is exacerbated by privilege and false winning. Maybe the tallest student picks first. Maybe the one w/ the lowest GPA? Maybe the artist or athlete? Just saying: is the alphabet the stand in for privilege? Might that depend on which alphabet too? …see more
Hope this link works: https://lnkd.in/edxQq92 . If I did not know better, I'd think the physician was sending bad vibes. Read on -- it is a follow on to an earlier piece on a bad acting cardiologist and my response and how his response (and mine. For the record, he's been reported to DC and MD physician organizations for pursuit of a complaint.
Thought this would be of interest. Original link did not work. It is about being treated well by physicians and is a follow-on to an earlier piece in Medium reposted here. Thoughts welcomed. The response is almost better than the original story. https://lnkd.in/edxQq92
