The current narrative around technology in Silicon Valley is "just get out of the way of it." Uber is the loudest but iit's a common view. The reason given is because technologies need to find their own water level in society and shouldn't be restricted —  such as with sales taxes, etc. But I disagree. We should be very clear about the type of future we want — not a random future. I'm a big fan of Jaron Lanier's book "Who Owns the Future?" But I think it's about "Who Has a Say About the Future."  I don't own my apartment but I have a say in how I live in it and what must be provided. We don't need to own the servers and software to determine the future we want and Silicon Valley has a important role in making it happen.  Don't get out of the way of technology -- show it the way! …see more
