Tea or Coffee? I love coffee but recently I visited an area in China known for Pu’er Tea. In China, Pu’er tea, made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, is created according to a specialized process and many believe in it’s unique health benefits, such as improvements in heart health and reductions in cholesterol levels. It’s also said that Pu’er tea can help promote weight loss, enhance eyesight, stimulate circulation, and soothe hangovers! Coffee however has been shown to lower the risk of some cancers, including endometrial cancer and nonmelanoma skin cancer. A study of more than 500,000 people across the world concluded that coffee drinking was associated with reduced risk of death from various causes Tea however gets the leg up for one reason only: the plethora of powerful antioxidants and polyphenols. Yes, coffee has them, too, but tea often has them in higher concentrations. I’m still a devoted coffee drinker but have added Pu’er tea to my weekly hot beverage line-up!
