i have come to the conclusion that risk cannot be reduced. at best it is displaced, and most times, it is displaced in ways that makes it hidden, which is dangerous. this realization has been a long time coming. anyhoo, now, whenever i am on the receiving end of a pitch from a startup team telling me they are eliminating risk because “blah blah blah technology” i either turn into the vengeful Odin and claim half of the team for Valhalla and ultimately Ragnarok, or i gently explain that risk is never eliminated, it is merely displaced. now, depending on how and where it is displaced, i may invest or i may not.
