One of the issues Netflix faced when it first launched streaming in 2007 was consumer access. To start, it was only available via PCs. Next, it was available on Macs followed by Microsoft 's Xbox 360, then Sony 's PS3, then Nintendo 's Wii. The strategy was to get Netflix on every A/V device that connected to the internet, which meant working with device (e.g. Blu-ray player) manufacturers to make that happen. This is why no one ever saw a production run of this, the Netflix Player. What you see here is a very expensive non-working model that was used for promotional photos and videos (that were scrapped). If it looks familiar, that's because it was spun out as The Netflix Player by Roku Inc. as Roku Founder and CEO, and inventor of the DVR, Anthony Wood had been lured to Netflix to create the player. The rest, as they say, is history. h/t to my Kaizen Creative Partnership partner Gary Kenji McMath for the photo. #Netflix #Roku #streaming #OTT #Microsoft #XBOX #PS3 #Sony #Nintendo #Wii #streaminghistory
