My National Geographic story about the #muralart project at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington, DC has posted, and I’m thinking back to my conversation with Aaron Bryant , a curator at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture . Murals have long been a part of social justice movements in the Black community, Bryant told me. “Starting with the 1967 Wall of Respect in Chicago, that really set off a mural movement in activism, where artists got involved not just with the community, but got the community involved in civic engagement and democracy.” Read my story through this link—-> https://lnkd.in/d_rxqUh And check out some of the fabulous images produced by artists with the PAINTS Institute collective below.
