a recent FT article made me think of this. we talk about unbundling and rebundling financial services & products, of new biz models, of new entrants, of startups, of incumbents, of the latest tech trend. all good and well. what we miss most times is what I call “the great mashup”. the great mashup is where hedge funds & PE funds do lending, Goldman does credit cards and retail banking, payments businesses do more than payments, asset managers such as BlackRock provide tech services, big tech does finserv, Google is interested in insurance, defi does structured derivatives, crypto startups issue their own monies. a merry go round of mashups. ‪mashups being enabled by tech advances (compute power, open source, AI algos, automation), falling costs of tech in general AND little regulatory oversight. ‬ #fintech #financialservices #banking #banks #insurance , #crypto #cards #payments
