One of the key ways for families to build intergenerational wealth is via real estate. But on top of slavery and Jim Crow, there was red-lining by banks and real estate covenants that kept African Americans from being able to tap into that. This post by Ben Thompson at Stratechery does a solid job of knitting together how those business practices, in large part but by no means solely, created the situation America finds itself in today with regard to the systemic opression of black Americans.
