progress compounds. technology change is accelerating. yet, to most, progress in financial services remains elusive. banks are still around, some are very profitable. most startups have failed to disrupt the industry head on. dig deeper to realize change crawls in finserv (because regulation, because regulatory capture), that many banks are structurally unsound , out of touch with younger generations and living off of their legacies. for every JPMorgan, DBS, ING or Goldman, there are thousands of zombies. …see more

‪hot take: Libra is what the financial services industry wants for the future of *crypto*. the amount of scrutiny from legislators and regulators alike is part of an elaborate kabuki play. co-opting is actually what is happening behind the scenes.‬

as many c- bankers and global finance luminaries (including BIS, IMF) are adding their voices to the chorus of centra bank digital currencies support (wholesale or retail focused), i believe we are nearing the end of the PR signaling phase and will soon enter a consensus-driven exploratory phase (feasibility studies, call for applications, POCs, beta projects) necessary to build towards eventual live projects. i mean consensus-driven because a few c-banks have undertaken their exploratory phases. these were the early would be adopters, but they were not supported by a broad consensus. how Libra has been received by c-banks, regulators & govts should be viewed within this broader context. how it will fare too. #centralbanks #banks #banking #cbdc #digital #Libra #regulators …see more

I understand both the desire and the need for our government to get a handle on the issues surrounding data privacy, but think about this… let’s say that the outcome is a broken-up Google and Facebook. And let’s say that this makes way for 50 more companies that use data the way Google and Facebook use it today. Then what? The problem is not how data is being collected. The problem is not collecting data. The problem is how it is used. Specifically, the problem is badly-written laws that prohibit certain kinds of information collection (sex, race, PHI, and other sensitive personal data). Why? Because it forces data scientists to create proxies for these attributes. Algorithms that use proxies (which are assumptions) with substandard or nonexistent feedback loops (to help the AI truly learn from its mistakes) doom the data-driven decision making process to one of the nine circles of hell (though I’m not sure which one). Breaking up data-rich organizations will simply make more versions of the same data-rich organizations. Allowing more small companies to do what the big companies are doing will not change the impact bad data science is already having on our society (a problem not trending in a good direction). …see more

"Epic #B2B experiences are fueled by data, intelligence, and insights- it’s the biggest challenge and missed opportunity for marketing today. Data is foundational, without it we don’t know what to say, who to say it to, or when to say it. Good data drives informed actions. But, we’ve relied too long on CRM as our primary source of data - it’s just one piece of puzzle. #Marketing data is different. We care about people, campaigns, who people are, what they visit, how campaigns are moving them through the journey. To-date, we’ve had no other choice to manage this data and learn from it. We are plugging Marketo Engage right into the Adobe Experience platform. All of your data in one place, a unified profile of every person / account, in words you speak and understand. It’s like Thanksgiving for all of your data.” - Matt Zilli on stage at #AdobeSummit #MKTGNation …see more
