The word "transcendent" does not begin to describe this hauntingly beautiful performance by Patti Smith during the Nobel Prize ceremony. The harrowing, elegant lyrics to Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" would be challenging enough in any setting, but Smith's vulnerability, and the way she recovered after nervousness, will stick with me. Legends are human, too...I dare you to not be moved.. …see more

‪”Most of us really want to offer the world something of quality, something that the world will consider good or important. And that's really the enemy, because it's not up to us whether what we do is any good, and if history has taught us anything, the world is an extremely unreliable critic.‬ Right?” Ethan Hawke ‪ …see more

one of the areas where i readily admit a weakness when assessing a startup for a potential investment is capital efficiency. i do not spend enough time on that and do not have enough comparable data points to use when analyzing. sure, it is easy to figure out what a capital raise will produce in terms of milestones. but weighing how capital efficient a startup is or could be over a long period is tricky. it probably is very indicative too. for example, i am often suspicious of big rounds in early stages startups and of high burn rates without clear operational details to back such moves. thoughts welcomed. #vc #venturecapital #startupfunding #entrepreneur #entrepreneurship #startups #investing …see more

there are less banks (increased market concentration) which, amongst other factors, leads to lower competition in the banking sector. a net/net negative for society. digitization often comes with a winner takes most outcome, which leads us to expect few fintech giants. iow, there will be few TransferWises, Robinhoods, Coinbases, Stripes, Klarnas, Monzos. this also means less rather than more intra banking competition. so far the crypto world follows power laws & market concentration. is the future of financial services doomed to be ever more concentrated? bar legislative or regulatory fiat? what say you? #banking #banks #digitization #fintech #competition #financialservices #crypto …see more
