I thought this piece, written while in Okinawa, might be of interest: it is on World Giraffe Day and helping save giraffe from extinction.

Thought this would be of interest. Original link did not work. It is about being treated well by physicians and is a follow-on to an earlier piece in Medium reposted here. Thoughts welcomed. The response is almost better than the original story. https://lnkd.in/edxQq92

Hope this link works: https://lnkd.in/edxQq92 . If I did not know better, I'd think the physician was sending bad vibes. Read on -- it is a follow on to an earlier piece on a bad acting cardiologist and my response and how his response (and mine. For the record, he's been reported to DC and MD physician organizations for pursuit of a complaint.

New blog post up! I don't always write about my own life, but this one speaks to an issue I'm currently struggling with! Anyone else?! "Instead of obsessing over our lives, our goals, and our busy schedules as we work toward burnout, we can often find the answer to life’s greatest problems outside of ourselves, in human connection." …see more

Governments can stop anti-trust violations but they cannot stop the fundamental nature of Internet economics which will eventually disrupt hundreds of thousands of companies as speed-to-scale is rewarded over innovation. Silicon Valley becomes much less interesting when that happens — and it is happening. …see more

Not a fan of articles like this that provide no context. Of course, TV is valuable to a brand like Coke. For TV to pay out, you need brand recognition that is north of 60%. Or you need to commit to long-term marketing spend. The problem with TV for smaller players (brand recognition and budget issues aside) is attribution. I do agree with Marcos De Quinto Romero that their spots should have the product in the commercial and that merely putting ads on social media is not a digital strategy. But I would hope folks at that level would already know this. …see more

I love the idea of car companies increasing value post-purchase a la Tesla . It increases brand affinity and builds desire in those who may be interested in buying. The coming wave of apps and bots based on open data will likely be much cheaper or free rendering the notion of BMW charging that much a month for the same thing a bit odd and potentially brand damaging. As Amelia Dalgaard pointed out in the comments, franchise laws may be playing a role which hints at the bigger issue - that the core business model of how cars are sold may be problematic to innovation. …see more

App creators, this free animation tool that ties into AfterEffects so you can easily add animations to to your app seems great. Of course, you need to make sure that cute animations/visual guides are on-brand. For example, if I saw a little bouncy animation in, say, an "in case of emergency app", that might actually erode trust. …see more

I just read the Chronicle of Higher Ed’s daily summary. It ended with an apparently real story of a new college student who emailed her roommates saying that because since her name was in the first half of the alphabet, she got to move in 1st and pick the best bed. Perhaps that was a joke by the roommate or the Chronicle. But here’s what struck me: some new students feel fortunate just to have a bed as opposed to the best bed. And can we all agree that there is not ONE best bed? Might that depend on whether you like windows or corners or top/bottom bunk? No conversation? What about switching beds every 3 months? There's a lesson whether the story was true or fake: the entering classes at all universities are not composed of clones—clones of the parents or new students. Might that engender an openness and capacity to engage thoughtfully w/ others as opposed to “owning the room” as the mother in the story is quoted as saying? How about owning decency? It saddens me that for some students the rocky start that many experience is exacerbated by privilege and false winning. Maybe the tallest student picks first. Maybe the one w/ the lowest GPA? Maybe the artist or athlete? Just saying: is the alphabet the stand in for privilege? Might that depend on which alphabet too? …see more

Changes are happening in the CPG (consumer packaged goods). Private labels are booming which is a signal that having a direct relationship with consumers will likely be a more effective strategy than traditional retail approach.
