Book pub date in June 19, 2020. …see more

Well, another quandary with respect to which I need some insight. I just read the stories about the predator/ cult leader Larry Ray and his involvement with students at Sarah Lawrence College (including his own daughter). It took a while but he was just arrested (later than necessary). The NYMagazine piece is chilling. My questions do not relate to the power of a cult figure on young people. We have many examples of this... sadly. Here’s what I don’t get: where were the Sarah Lawrence administrators and staff? Apparently, at least one knew something was “up” in a specific dorm and did not address the issues. Perhaps a parent can spend a night or two or three in a dorm but Larry Ray’s stay appears to be much longer. Didn’t folks notice? Wasn’t there an RA? I frankly am hard pressed to believe the College could claim to be so hands off or ignorant or accepting of parents living on campus. Weren’t red lights flashing? Lives and relationships were ruined. What responsibility did/does Sarah Lawrence have and are the personnel then there still employed? Years in question seem to be 2010 — 2014. There must be another piece or two of three that I am missing. I have known some administrators there — remarkable people. Explain to me what happened please. …see more

Twitter is in the anonymity business. Anyone or anything can easily create an account. You can build vast troll bot armies at will (which people and nation-states do). This is simply bad for humanity. Think about this...

Trauma has tentacles that wrap themselves around survivors. That statement expresses this reality: school shootings have lasting effects on the survivors: students, teachers, families, communities. For proof, we need first to recognize the traumatic symptomology that survivors show. Consider this article and the LA Middle School teacher's continuing struggle with a school shooting in which she was injured. https://lnkd.in/eAbHYVY This article and the teacher's symptomology are also why anniversaries (commemorations) of a trauma need to be planned thoughtfully, recognizing that the impact of trauma remains long after the actual incident. With the upcoming Parkland shooting anniversary on Feb. 14, we should all pause to reflect on what would produce healing that day as opposed to reactivation of our autonomic nervous systems. And, this applies whether one was there, related to someone there, knows someone there, was involved in another school shooting, or is an educator who worries about shootings. And, for the record, this isn't even a complete list of all affected parties. …see more

Thought this short piece on change might be of interest. How we make change -- and how to make change stick -- is not easy. In my view, it requires input and buy in from those within an institution. Consultants can't do that. Reaching out to staff and client/patients/students will make change happen more effectively. …see more
