All the grind, hustle, and grit in the world are meaningless without the one thing that will improve your career: clarity. Having clarity enables you to align your goals with a plan to achieve them—and stay away from the things that can derail you. Ask yourself these two questions to attain greater clarity: 1. What do I want? Though simple, that question isn’t easy for most to answer. It takes thoughtful reflection, and sometimes, a reality check: do you really want (fill in the blank), and are you willing to do what it takes to achieve it? It’s likely that your answer will be different from your friends’ or co-workers’, or what someone else may want for you, or even what you thought you wanted, and that’s okay. This is about being crystal clear with what is of the utmost importance to you; clarity demands specificity. 2. Does what I’m doing (or about to do) support that? Ask yourself to what or whom you’re currently choosing to devote your time, and if this choice helps you move closer to your goals or prevents you from achieving them. Say yes to those that support what you want, and don’t be afraid to say no to those things that do not. If individuals and activities are dragging you down and preventing you from moving forward, let them go. #career #leadership #clarity …see more

Why was your podcast in Hindi when it was about English-speaking people? Oh wow, your Hindi was very good - didn’t know you could speak Hindi...you come across as very NRI. These are the most common comments I get about my #podcast ‘Meri Pyaari Saheliyan’. I do speak Hindi well because I studied at a Hindi-medium intermediate college in Unnao, UP. (In fact, that was my highest classroom study as I did my undergrad by correspondence, which btw also included Hindi literature). I started speaking English only after I moved to Australia; I worked on it to blend in. I had to make them forget I was Indian. I made the show in Hindi to remind that I am still Indian. And I don’t see why we shouldn’t tell Indian stories in Hindi. Some of my guests had regional accents but all of them understood Hindi. What do you think? …see more

Did you know that Star Trek original series ended exactly 50 years ago? Yet, the famous medical tricorder from the series - the device diagnosing every disease instantly - still couldn't be implemented. Viatom CheckMe Pro is one of the aspirants which could get the closest to making science fiction a reality - it functions as a sleep tracker, records your ECG, measures blood oxygen saturation, counts the steps you take and so on. Though it aims to serve both as a health sensor/fitness tracker and a medical device, I would rather recommend it to medical professionals. Would you be happy with a device measuring so many things all-in-one? Here we also summarized our experience with the device: https://lnkd.in/g7uBgN7 #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #wearable #health #healthy #fromchancetochoice …see more

Thinking of Starting--or Re-Starting Working Out? It's Springtime and which means its time to think about bicycling, upcoming trips to our beautiful National Parks, summer picnics. Which means feeling physically fit, 'light' and well, happy. I've started, stopped and re-started working-out too many times to count over the 40 years I've been exercising. Here's what I've learned: 1. Re-Set To Zero: Know you will start, stop and need to re-start exercising many, many times. I think of this as 'resetting to zero.'  2. Get into the Work-Out Mindset: Be kind to yourself and set winning 'goals' at the beginning of your 'work-out season.'  3. Feel Successful Each Time You Work-Out: It’s about the process of ‘doing’ so applaud yourself for ‘doing’ rather than judging ‘how much or how little’ you did. 4. Figure Out ‘Why’ You Want To Exercise: This becomes important to staying fit. 5. Develop a Personal Matra: By coming up with a ‘saying’ that you can repeat to yourself when you are working-out, that helps a lot. When I used to train for marathons, I would repeat to myself ‘The Mind Gives Out Before The Body.’  This is a good, comprehensive article on tips, ideas, strategies to help everyone start—or continue along their healthcare journey. …see more

How do you learn to NOT take things personally? There are some real gems in this TED Talk from actor and coach (and amateur football referee!) Frederik Imbo . But if you don't have time to listen to the whole thing, at least check out the final 1.5 minutes, which contain a powerful illustration. (It begins at the 16:15 mark in the video.) And if you don't even have time for that, here's the sound bite: "People may attack you, criticize you or ignore you. They can crumple you up with their words, spit you out or even walk all over you. But remember: Whatever they do or say... You will always keep your value." (Really, though, check out the link. Frederik's object lesson makes a much greater impact.) #emotionalintelligence #leadership #management #growthmindset #eqapplied #MakeEmotionsWorkForYouNotAgainstYou …see more

A real cautionary tale! Delivering such messages requires the physician to be there in person. Simple rule in communication and providing empathy. You can't provide empathy through a machine, or at least, not when being present in person is an option. What do you think could have gone wrong here? #healthcare #health #medicine #digitalhealth …see more

They survived The Great Depression, WWII, Vietnam, 9/11, Financial Crisis, Social Media(!), and 6 pandemics. And probably a divorce or two. I always want to be the dumbest person in the room. Now we're all in virtual rooms so it's trickier. But the people in the attached graphic have been there, done that, and lived to tell the tale. To read their advice is invaluable to me as I try to struggle and muddle my way through my own fears now. But right now it's important to find the advice that works and stick to it. . . #writing #living #lifesyle …see more

I'm not in the habit of writing reviews of fictional pieces, but this one hit a nerve. Netflix's new series, Girlboss, which is loosely based on Sophia Amoruso, could have been a powerful story that showcased her incredible entrepreneurial rollercoaster ride with Nasty Gal. Instead, the show perpetuates negative stereotypes about women, the worst being their depiction of Women in Tech - awkward, drab, timid. It certainly doesn't help shift perceptions of STEM for young women when pop culture entertainment does things like this - oh, and this was created and produced by a largely female team. …see more
