Random (or not so random) thoughts: My computer died. Perhaps writing a new book wore it out. Wore me out too. Being without my computer feels debilitating. But, I will have new computer w/ data transfer I hope by Thurs. Somehow, despite my cell phone’s potential, I can’t use it to write or do PowerPoints or edit. I have an article to post on Medium but it won’t post from my cell; Medium refuses to recognize my identity. Piece is on reopening schools/colleges. Another update: I’d been following Amanda Kloots’ posts about her husband Nick Cordero who was in ICU for 91 days and died Sunday. She had hope. I feel a loss, not because I know Nick Cordero personally (many know him from Broadway/TV). But, I believed in his capacity to fight Covid. He didn’t go gently into that goodnight. And I appreciate anger is rising among us. I’m extra mad at my alma mater Smith. They emailed alums that they had a culture of care for returning students. It focused on physical safety, impt to be sure. But, not a word on psychological wellbeing and institutional preparedness for traumatized students. Smithies are immune? Smith never paid attention to me (many stories there). They wouldn’t know or care that I wrote a book on trauma and student success, helpful for reopenings. Hum.
