Was great to sit down with Jason Dunstone for his Square Holes podcast after my talk at the AMSRS conference last week in Sydney. We chatted about Netflix , Blockbuster , and how strategic leadership led the former to triumph over the latter (among other things). Oh, and I know the trope that “Netflix didn’t beat Blockbuster, they did it to themselves.” True, but also consider the fact that Blockbuster existed for decades before being forced to innovate. News that the #UK has approved the Pfizer #coronavirus #vaccine is being greeted with optimism in many circles--but there's still an incredible amount of skepticism in others. Pledges to ensure that #frontlineworkers and the vulnerable #elderly would be among the first to receive a viable vaccine are welcome. On the other hand, promises that communities of color could be prioritized have caused concern. #America 's record of medical experimentation in those same communities is complicating the plan to try and remediate the blow that #COVID19 has dealt to people of color. But my ultimate concern is still #healthequity . Lower-income nations haven't developed the infrastructure to make mass #vaccinations possible--and that's apart from their financial ability to secure them in the first place. That's why I'm encouraged by this partnership between the #Chinese Alibaba Group and Ethiopian Airlines to introduce a #coldchain capable of transporting temperature-sensitive medicines from #China to the rest of the world. Let's hope It indicates that #innovation and #healthcareaccess are still prioritize, even during this crisis. #globalhealth #HealthForAll #vaccineswork …see more
